Typical vodka doesn’t excite us because it generally doesn’t lend much character to a drink and thus is less fun to experiment with. However, when we first tried St. George’s “Green Chile” vodka; made with a proprietary blend of jalapeños, habañeros, serranos and bell peppers, we immediately knew we had to have it. While it has a nice kick to it the spiciness level isn’t overbearing. Furthermore, it has this super fresh essence of bell pepper that adds a nice savoriness to any classic drink... like this variation on a Last Word. Word. ____________________ “Heated Words” • 3/4 oz @stgeorgespirits Green Chile vodka • 3/4 oz Green Chartreuse • 3/4 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur • 3/4 oz fresh lime
Every now and then you get an itch to flip a classic — in this case we took Philly’s beloved Clover Club Cocktail and swapped the gin with bourbon. Sip with caution, as it may make you fall in love 🌹 ___________________________ “Cupid’s Arrow” • 1 1/2 oz @oldelkbourbon • 3/4 oz lemon juice • 1/4 oz raspberry syrup • 1 egg white • Dry shake; wet shake. This week is taking forever, right “Old Sport”? This gin riff on a Manhattan should do the trick. ______________________________________________ Ingredients: • 2 oz Tom Cat Gin • 1/2 oz sweet vermouth (we used Dolin) • 2 dashes dashes angostura bitters • 1 @woodfordreserve bourbon cherry (drop in the glass before serving) • 1 barspoon of cherry juice from the jar
With cold weather comes citrus season. We keep coming back to @mixtressnyc take on a citrusy scotch cocktail. ___________________ “The Vamp” • 2 oz @dewars blended scotch • 1/2 oz Cointreau • 2 oz fresh orange juice • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice • 2 dashes Angostura bitters • Garnish with a flamed orange peel
The “Polar Bear” (found in Emma Janzen’s book “Mezcal”) seems fitting given the current state of arctic affairs. ________________ Ingredients: • 1 1/2 oz Mezcal • 3/4 oz Blanc Vermouth • 1/2 oz Crème de Menthe • 6 Drops of @scrappysbitters celery bitters Give this one a good shake for an alluring mystical quality.
If you haven’t already met Manhattan’s lesser known cousin “The Brooklyn” you should definitely acquaint yourself. He’s a legend in his own right. ___________________ Ingredients: • 2 oz Rittenhouse Rye • 3/4 oz Dolin Dry Vermouth • 1/4 oz Amaro CioCiaro • 1 teaspoon luxardo maraschino liqueur
